We’re excited to announce the launch of a new digital platform for School District 81 – Fort Nelson, including the district website and five refreshed school sites.
As one of BC’s northernmost school districts, SD81 serves a tight-knit community with unique logistical needs. This project was all about creating a communication platform that’s clear, easy to manage, and accessible to all—whether you’re a parent checking the bell schedule or a teacher updating school news.
Each school site now features a customized logo inspired by its mascot, offering a fresh, unified identity while maintaining local character. This district-wide visual update helps families quickly recognize the connection between each school, while still celebrating what makes each one distinct.
A key focus throughout was accessibility—not just meeting standards, but making it easier for people to engage with content confidently. The new websites include:
- Improved readability and responsive design
- Built-in high contrast, dyslexia-friendly fonts, and hide image options
- Simplified navigation with cleaner page structures
- Streamlined news, events, and document sharing across all sites
Built on a WordPress Multisite framework, the platform gives SD81 a smarter way to manage content. Staff can now post an update once—like a district-wide announcement or resource link—and choose which school sites it appears on. That means fewer emails, more consistent info, and more time focused on students.
The project launched quietly at the beginning of October 2025. Since then, it’s already helped streamline day-to-day communication and reduce repetitive admin tasks. It’s a great example of how thoughtful tools and structure can support real people—not overwhelm them.
